It was 25 years ago this week that Karen Carpenter died from heart failure due to her longstanding anorexia. Although there are other records I enjoy listening to more, there is no voice on earth I ever heard that was lovely as hers. Expressive, clear and always tinged with melancholy and yearning, her voice never fails to move me. Truly, an astonishing talent and her senseless loss from the world at the age of 32 still upsets me to this day.
