I hadn't  been intending to bother with The Tudors but then I saw that Jeremy Northam was in it playing Thomas More and I was suddenly there! I've fancied him like mad since 1992 when I saw him in A Fatal Inversion on the BBC when I then promptly decided he was the most gorgeous man on the entire planet. Of course, this was before I saw Heroes and realised that that particular title is actually held by the lovely Adrian Pasdar. Still,  Jeremy still looked damned fine although my suspicions were confirmed that The Tudors isn't really up to much.  It's pretty much in the spirit of the BBC/HBO's recent "Rome" with a its mixture of history and sex only not quite as good. Jonathan Rhys Meyers is pretty, but really miscast as Henry and this hurts the show as he just doesn't quite have the  necessary presence so far. The guy playing the Duke of Buckingham would have been a much better choice. There was a lot of action but it was all curiously uninvolving. I'll tune in next week because Anne Boleyn looks like she'll take a bigger role but I'll probably tape it instead whilst I watch...

Ugly Betty!

Second episode in and my favourite bit belonged to Marc  (as per usual) with his providing thunder for Whilemina to provide menace and ambience. He truly is the best assistant in the world!  Also touching was his uncharacteristic compassion to Justin over the death of his Dad. Aww - I'm such a sucker for glimpses of vulnerability in bitchy characters. No Illeana Douglas this week, which is a bit of a shame as she is one of my favourite actresses - maybe last week was a one off? I'm also hoping to see Gina Gershon again this season too.
