An exciting day. The astonishingly generous Caractacus Pott over at The Straight Dope message board has posted me a box full of Girl Scout cookies out of the kindness of his heart.  What a nice chap - apparently he is stationed in Cambridge here in the UK and it is not the done thing not to buy any but he doesn't like to eat them so he's been posting boxes out to any UK Dopers who want 'em.  I am very excited by this - my lifelong love and fascination with American culture has often led me to wondering about these treats, their place in the American psyche and the devotion they inspire and now I have some. So far, I have only eaten one of the lemon chalet cremes but it was delicious - a surprisingly tart lemon creme, sandwiched between two plain biscuits. But more than that, I'm just stoked to actually have some of the boxes to look at. For some reason I never thought they'd be all branded and stuff -I naively assumed they'd look very homemade but there are photos of the girlscouts on them and their mission statement and everything. Brilliant!
